(no) MOVIE MONDAY - Ella Enchanted

You might be wondering what's the difference between Ella Enchanted the book, and
the movie? Or you might be thinking, “If I've watched the movie, surely I don't need to
read the book, right”? If you thought that, well then you'd be wrong. The movie and the
book are VERY different. The book being the original, had all the original ideas.
Therefore you should definitely read the book.

How about we start at the beginning: When Ellas was born and cursed.

In the book Ella and her family lived in a manor or, in other words, a small castle. Yet in
the movie, they have been downsized to a normal thatched house. Another thing, Ella
was given an order after she was given her “gift of obedience” from (and I quote) “That
fool of a fairy Lucinda”. In the book the order was to ‘stop crying’. But the Lucinda from
the movie said, ‘Go to sleep’. GO TO SLEEP!! YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?

Where were we? Ah yes, the difference between the book and the movie. In the book
Ella didn't know that Mandy was a fairy until she was around 14 (maybe) because her
mother never told her. Yet in the movie, Ella somehow knows at the age of idk 5. OH
AND ANOTH- ahem, oh and another thing-When Ella's mother died, both Ella and Lady
Eleanor ( Ella's mom) were sick. In the movie it was only Lady Eleanor. Then she died.
(But we don't talk about that).  In the book after Lady Eleanor's death, Ella meets Char at the
funeral. Yet somehow the movie translated that to be Ella meeting Char when he's
running away from a fangirl mob and runs into her, literally. In the book Char didn't have
any admirers let alone a fan club. In the movie Hattie IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE FAN
CLUB - Ridiculous!

Lord James (Ella's father) didn't even marry Dame Olga until near the end of the book
and at the wedding they were given a great “gift”, the “gift” of eternal love. But in the movie,
he just arrived home one day magically married. Yeay! No marriage, no gift, no fun.

Yes now let's get to some of the problems with Char’s family. Not only did the fangirls not
exist, but neither did his uncle. And the king definitely did not have a snake in the book. But
in the movie he does AND it talks. The king wasn't even a character in the books because
Char’s dad AND mom were alive. The plot to the antagonist’s story for the movie is the the
uncle killed Char’s dad so the he could be king (problem solved). But you know just another
day in PAINVILLE. Plus if they had gone along with the actual story of the book they won't have
anyone killing anyone. Wouldn't that be nice.

Now on to all the bad things about the movie not having a finishing school and instead it been
a college, oh look I just said one. First it's a finishing school people, not a college. I mean come
on, don’t modernize an already great book. Hattie forced Ella to give her Ellas mother’s necklace
on the way to finishing school. But no finishing school means new plot. And in this new story, not
only did Ella have to give Hattie her necklace, but she also had to give Hattie her room. Another
thing: Ella left Areida behind at the finishing school. But no finishing school that means Ella’s
stepmother had to get rid of Areida another way. So that happened.😐

Before Ella left for finishing school, in the book, she was given a magic fairy tales book.
Unfortunately, in the movie she didn't go to finishing school. So she was given the book before
she left… her house. You want to know something about the fairy tale book? In the movie, IT'S
NOT EVEN A FAIRY TALE BOOK! It's actually Mandy's boyfriend, that Mandy accidently turned
into a talking book with a face. Yeay! In the book, Mandy didn't have an admirer, let alone a
boyfriend.

One of the reasons for Ella’s mission to the Land of the Giants, was to find Lucinda and plus her
father was going to be there. In the movie NEITHER LUCINDA NOR ELLA’S FATHER WERE AT
THE GIANTS WEDDING. And Char-Char WAS AT THE WEDDING. In the book Ella was
accompanied by a Sir Stephen (Gerald, maybe?)  but not Char. OH and, and, and THEY KISSED
ELLA AND CHAR DON'T KISS TILL THE END OF THE BOOK. So that means more tension build
up. You know like those moments when your like come on come on kiss. THEY DIDN'T KISS and
the author is just like trollololol suffer

In the book when Ella breaks up with Char, she writes the note in her stepsister’s hand. But no, in
the movie she just tells Char not to be around her! Then Ella chains herself to a tree so she
doesn’t kill him! IN THE BOOK, Ella NEVER HAD TO KILL HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE! Because
remember in the book nobody had to kill nobody.

Also, in the book, the ball was a three night masquerade ball for Char to find a wife. In the movie it
was one night, like a coronation ball or something. And it wasn't even a masquerade ball.

So you know that iconic few scenes where we follow little elf to find friends and save Ella. FIRST:
THE ELF WASN'T EVEN IN THE BOOK FOR MORE THAN LIKE ONE CHAPTER! And the ogres
were friendly at the end of the movie. THE OGERS WERE NEVER FRIENDLY IN THE BOOK!
So you know, they lived happily ever after. Royal wedding and stuff. And I bet your thinking, “what
could possibly be wrong with the wedding?” One thing: It's not a major thing, but it bothered me. In
the book, Ella’s step-family wasn't even invited to the wedding. They were allowed ,if then desired,
to watch from the gates with the rest of the town. In the movie they were sitting ,uncomfortably,
along with all the other guests.

So kids, what did we learn about watching the movies and not reading the books. DON’T! You're
only cheating yourself if you do so.
